Founded in 1954, the Kuopio Conservatoire is one of Finland’s biggest and most wide-ranging music schools, which provides both basic music and dance education and vocational music education. Basic music and dance education is given to a total of some 2000 children and young people in Kuopio and in the surrounding area. Most of the Conservatoire operates in the Kuopio Music Centre, which was completed in 1985 and also houses the Kuopio Academy of Music and Dance, the Sibelius Academy’s Kuopio Department, and the Kuopio City Orchestra. Thus, it is possible to study music and dance from early childhood to the highest vocational degrees in the same building.
